Abu Dhabi Contract - Showcase for British BricksJune 2009 250,000 Lancashire Bricks to go to Gulf - Bolton Supplier wins order for new resort - Start on work for five universities in Libya (Manchester Evening News) 'A Bolton company has won a major order to supply 250,000 bricks to a luxury new resort in Abu Dhabi. The red facing bricks from Lancashire Brick & Tile will be used at the vast Al Bandar scheme at Al Raha Beach, being built by Aldar Devlopments. The deal is particularly sweet for managing director Martyn Wells and commercial director Ian Shard, who have taken holidays with their families around the Gulf for the last few years. Martyn said, "We both go out a couple of times a year, for the weather and great levels of service. We have watched as all the glass and steel buildings have gone up and lamented how none of the developers used brick. But in March this year we went out for four days - this time on business, meeting various architects and specifiers - and, as a result, won this contract to supply facing bricks for this scheme. We are absolutely delighted British-made bricks will be showcased on such a high-profile scheme. The bricks for the first phase are already on their way." Impression of Al Bandar resort at Al Raha Beach in Abu Dhabi
Al Raha Beach is a spectacular waterfornt city spread over 5.2m square metres that will house up to 120,000 residents in 11 precincts, each with its own distinct personality, on the beach side of the main highway ;eading into Abu Dhabi from Dubai. And Lancashire Brick is looking at new ways of getting its traditional building materials used out in the Gulf by developing a facade that can be installed without bricklayers. Martyn, who founded the firm 20 years ago and now employs 12 staff, said, "Getting skilled staff has apparently been the problem, but a British contractor is working on the Al Bandar scheme, so is used to brickwork." And he sees vast potential in the region. He said, "We are in the initial stages of a massive job in Libya, for five universities. We are working with a British architect and there is a lot of work still going on. They liked the fact that a couple of lads from Bolton were mad enough to go out there and sell bricks to the Arabs!" Lancashire Brick wins Abu Dhabi Contract (Crain's Manchester Business) 'A Bolton-based brick manufacturer has won an order to supply 250,000 red facing bricks to a new luxury resort in Abu Dhabi. Lancashire Brick & Tile, which supplies bricks, glass blocks and natural slate amongst other materials, is to supply the bricks to the Bandar scheme, which is being built by Aldar Developments. The company, which was founded 20 years ago by Martyn Wells, has already sent out the first batch of bricks for the first phase of the huge construction project, which invloves construction of more than 500 apartments in five separate buildings on the first phase of the project, which is set to complete later this year. Eventually, 10 more phases will be built, creating a $54bn (£33.5bn) waterfront city which is being built on the beach side of the main highway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The scheme has been designed by British architect Broadway Malyan and is being built by Aldar/Laing O'Rourke.' Children in Need Fundraising14th November 2008 - Office
